And in time I found out that the developer, Bullfrog, is a well known studio that was also the developer of the highly acclaimed management game Dungeon Keeper (which is now on my radar). I think this is the biggest gap I've ever had of when I first played a game to when I managed to play it through to the end. Well I'll skip over the rest, but after a lot of off and on with this game, yesterday I was finally able to finish the final scenario with a ridiculous amount of money in the bank and a sprawling hospital staffed by dozens of doctors, nurses, and handymen. Anything that allows patients more room to move around and keep away from each other helped. After enough tinkering, I realized that all I needed to do was be more generous with how I spaced out seating and rooms. I actually dropped it for maybe a year before returning to it again. Unfortunately, while I loved it, I was too young and too stupid to really understand how to play it effectively, and I must have burned out at some point. This was my first exposure to "management" games. Suddenly I'm looking at something that looks like Command & Conquer, but I see doctors instead of soldiers, medical clinics instead of tank factories, patients instead of enemies. Then I found Theme Hospital, I think it was on the computer at a family friend's house. But I never liked micromanaging I hated that I always had to tell everyone every little thing they need to do. It made me feel like the man in charge, and I loved building bases and issuing orders to obedient soldiers. When I first played it, I didn't know that this was something that video games could be. ![]() For context, Command & Conquer changed the concept of video games for me. I first played Theme Hospital when I was just a young 'un.
